Abdominal pain + exercise
Sometimes, doing some kind of sport have felt a sharp pain in the abdomen? The truth is that I do, and is a somewhat annoying pain, has this is known as "Side stitch pain" and in Mexico is commonly called "sore horse" because it is said that horses experience similar discomfort when they are overworked.
- The first theory is that the pain comes from the tensions that occur in the ligaments that attach the diaphragm to the stomach. And this is because if we eat or drink too much and make any physical exercise, the pain makes its appearance, because the stomach heavier and movements of this increase.
- Another theory is the lack of blood flow to the muscle of the diaphragm. When exercising, the body muscles demand more oxygen-rich blood, and blood is restricted in the diaphragm, which cause fatigue and pain, causing a sort of cramping or pinching, which would be the side stitch pain.
- This theory is related to the respiration. If we took a ragged breath and not constant body would have a lack of oxygen and the diaphragm is restricted. There are studies in which it has been found that is more common in people who breathe with mouth open at the time of exercise and change the rhythm, while performing the exercise because breathing through the mouth, entering large volumes of air, causing further expansion of the diaphragm muscle, which causes a painful contraction.
As you can see there are some theories about this but most likely is that the cause is multifactorial and in some cases will be due to some factors and sometimes to others.
But we can avoid this pain following some guidelines:
- Eating a healthy diet to prevent acidity problems and intestinal inflammation that can trigger the onset of pain.
- Breath control, must be evenly and according to the rhythm that we take to avoid running out of oxygen and promote the proper function of the diaphragm.
- Drinking water when exercising, it is better to drink small sips and constant, than large sips, because large sips are suddenly much weight in our stomach.
- Strengthen the middle area of the body.
But if we have pain we must do it is:
- Slow down, not stop on suddenly, and press with your fingers in the area where it hurts.
- Tighten the abdominal area and breathe smoothly, and continue until the pain will disappear.
- If pain persists, there is no choice to stop and relax. Exhale deeply to empty the lungs and stretches the abdominal part.
Now we know how to avoid it or what to do when that pain is presented, and also how we say in Mexico. And, how do you say to this abdominal pain?
