In this topic I will focus on what we celebrate on 2 February, in Mexico, it is a very special day because my birthday is celebrated, well besides that, we celebrate the day of the Candelaria.


It's a party which is celebrated in honor of the Virgen de la Candelaria, Virgin found in Tenerife, an island of Spain, which was derived from the candlestick or candle that refers to the holy light, which guides to the right path, salvation and intensifies the faith in God.

It is the day when the Christmas period ends because 40 days have passed after celebrating Christmas, the birth of Christ, and is when it is presented the Baby Jesus in the Temple of Jerusalem.

This party is called in different parts of the world with names like: The Presentation of the Lord, The festival of Candles or The Festival of Light; where Christ is the light of the world who came to enlighten all as a candle and who was introduced by his mother to the temple, this is where the name of the Candelaria arises.

The day of the Candelaria , in Mexico is a festival in which indigenous and Spanish traditions come together, by merging religious and pre-Hispanic rituals. The tradition of Catholic origin, rooted in Mexico, however, with the help of pre-Hispanic tradition, which called Tlaloc, Chalchiuhtlicue and Tlaloques for good harvests and abundant rain with offerings of corn. Creating an unique festival and is celebrated with tamales and atole.
