The revenge of Moctezuma.

Revenge of the Aztec emperor.

It is possible that several of the people who have visited Mexico know very well what this revenge is.

What is it?

Moctezuma's revenge is currently a popular expression in Mexico, which refers to the gastrointestinal problems that foreigners may suffer when eating Mexican food since they are not used to eating this type of cuisine prepared mainly in most cases with chile, different condiments, and oils used (especially in street food).

Origin.

It all began with the arrival of the Spaniards to Aztec lands and an accident with the arrival of corn in Spain when they tried to process it following the same process as with wheat, leaving aside the nixtamalization (this helps to release niacin) that they made the ancient natives of Mexico to corn. Being an economic food that was available to all people, but not following the same process caused a deficiency of vitamins, leaving many dead, this condition is known as the "evil of the rose" or pellagra.

In Mexico, it was called the "Revenge of Moctezuma" for ignoring the natives and not following the same procedure to treat corn.

Currently, there are several medications, such as antacids, which can help anyone who visits Mexico to enjoy Mexican food, it is delicious, and remember that this revenge does not happen to have diarrhea while your stomach gets used to our cuisine.

On the other hand, Moctezuma's revenge is also present in football. Well, anyone who eliminates Mexico from the World Cup does not win the world cup. Here are some examples:

  • In 1994, Bulgaria eliminated Mexico, then lost in the semifinals.
  • In France 98 Mexico lost to Germany, which fell in the next game in the quarterfinals.
  • In Korea-Japan 2002, the United States returned home to the Mexicans, but they lost in the next game.
  • In Germany 2006, Argentina defeated the Mexican national team, but they only lasted one more match in the tournament.
  • In South Africa 2010, the match was repeated and the Argentines won again, but again they were eliminated in the quarters again.
  • In Brazil 2014 Mexico was eliminated by the Netherlands, but they could only reach the semifinals. P.S. IT WAS NOT A PENALTY. ;)
  • And in the last World Cup of Russia 2018, Brazil was the victim, who after defeating the Mexicans, fell in the quarterfinals against Belgium.

So you know, do not have Mexico as an opponent because Moctezuma will not make them reach the World Cup final.

Political fanaticism.

Political fanaticism.    In recent years, a very latent phenomenon that has been growing dangerously and vertiginously, in a context of high polarization; this distorter is presented as an enemy of electoral conscience and a healthy and mature democracy, it is political fanaticism.    But let's start by defining fanaticism:    According to the definition of the Royal Spanish Academy : it is an “excessive passion and tenacity in the defense of beliefs or opinions, especially religious or political ones”.    For Voltaire: “Fanaticism is to superstition what delirium is to fever, what rage is to anger. He who has ecstasies, visions, who takes dreams for realities and his imaginations for prophecies is a novice fanatic with great hopes; he may soon get to kill for God's sake."    Therefore, fanaticism is identified by the desire to impose their ideas, despise those who are different, be based on a series of thoughts that ar...

Bandera Mexicana
