Regreso de enfermedades erradicadas y controladas.

Vacunas.




Hace unos días leí una nota en la que mencionaban el regreso de varias enfermedades que se creían controladas como el sarampión, tos ferina, etc. Pues está muy fuerte actualmente el movimiento antivacunas.


Este movimiento inició desde 1998 cuando en una revista se mencionó que las vacunas desarrollaban autismo en las personas que la habían recibido.  (Muchas personas alrededor del mundo fuimos vacunadas y no desarrollamos autismo). Pero en 2010 la revista se retractó pues se habían manipulado los resultados.
 


Existen un sin fin de mitos acerca de las vacunas, pero ¿qué son?


Una vacuna es un medicamento biológico constituido a partir de microorganismos (bacterias o virus), muertos o atenuados, o productos derivados de ellos, cuya función es la de generar inmunidad en el organismo frente a una determinada enfermedad, estimulándolo para producir anticuerpos que lo protegerán frente a futuras infecciones, ya que el sistema inmune podrá reconocer el agente infeccioso y lo destruirá. 



Los microorganismos de las vacunas como ya se mencionó están muertos o muy debilitados y no representan ningún peligro para la persona, pero es suficiente para que su sistema inmune reaccione generando anticuerpos contra él y con ellos adquiriendo una memoria inmunitaria que le permitirá reconocer ese microorganismo concreto y eliminarlo.
 


Efectos.

Los efectos adversos de las vacunas son muy leves: enrojecimiento leve, dolor en el lugar de la inyección, fiebre o dolores musculares. Esto demuestra que las vacunas son medicamentos muy eficaces y seguros.


Importancia.
  
Las vacunas junto a la potabilización del agua han sido la medida de prevención que más beneficios ha aportado a la humanidad. Enfermedades que antes eran epidémicas y que originaban una gran mortalidad ahora están erradicadas en todo el mundo como la viruela, casi erradicadas como son la poliomielitis o sarampión, o controladas como la hepatitis B, tétanos, difteria, meningitis meningocócica o tos ferina.
 


Ningún otro medicamento ha salvado tantas vidas como las vacunas, por lo que no vacunarse o negar la vacunación a los hijos no sólo debe considerarse como un acto irresponsable de cara a su propia salud, sino frente al conjunto de la sociedad, ya que puede traer el retorno de enfermedades ya olvidadas en muchos países.



No pongan en riesgo la salud de sus hijos creyendo esos mitos acerca de las vacunas, informarse no cuesta nada.
