Spam and phishing.
Most of us every day receive unwanted emails (it is possible that some occasions are more unwanted than desired), these emails are known as spam and phishing.
What are they?
What are they?
Spam: Are all those unwanted advertising messages and unknown sender which are extremely annoying. They range from slimming products, viagra, pornography, etc.
Phishing: Posts made by cybercriminals to obtain personal data related to passwords and access information to financial services, mainly using web pages that exactly copy the design of the image of banks and companies.
Differences:
- Spam seeks to advertise a product or service, while phishing only goes after personal and financial information.
- Phishing impersonates the identity of a recognized company trying to deceive you, spam can come from a company that really exists.
- In the case of spam, it usually goes to sites where you can buy the advertised product or service, but with phishing campaigns, the only thing you're going to get is that they steal your personal information.
- Spam is found in free hosting services, however, phishing is found on legitimate but vulnerable websites created by cybercriminals.
- Spam campaigns tend to extend to forums, search engines and various free services on the Internet, and phishing is more focused on users in a specific country or region.
As users of emails and social networks, we must be aware of these messages and not end up on the list of people who have been deceived and stolen. The best thing is to never open this type of unwanted emails.
